Martin Jol was keen to add the 39-year-old striker to his books during the January transfer window and Sheringham was given the permission to consider the move.
He told Sky Sports News, “There was a chance to go to Tottenham and he (Alan Pardew) said if I really wanted to go he wouldn't stand in my way.
“The manager made it quite clear he wanted me to stay here and I'm enjoying playing for West Ham and I want to do it next season as well.
“The grass is not always greener on the other side. The manager is doing a great job, there are a great bunch of players here and I'm getting great job satisfaction day in, day out.
“I've had a great career and loved every minute of it and we'll see what happens next.”
