"I think he was fouled and kicked the floor in frustration but the referee must have taken it as intent to kick the player," said the Hammers boss after the 1-1 draw at the Bescot.
"I said to him, 'please are you going to look at it again because I think you're gut reaction was wrong'.
"He has been fair enough to say he will look at it, and I appreciate that.
"We have had a magnificent performance from the 10 men who were left on and we had chances to win the game."
If Defoe's red card is seen to be warranted then he faces an automatic five game ban.
