Pardew was also disappointed with the tackle by Jeff Whitley that saw midweek hat-trick hero Matthew Etherington stretchered off the Stadium of Light pitch just 15 minutes into the game.
"It was a very strong tackle and though the lad has not fractured anything, he is a big loss to us," said manager Alan Pardew.

"Our frustration came out in the wrong manner. It was a stop-start game and that's difficult when you are a goal down and there's no flow to the game.
