It is always pleasing to read positive things in the press about the Hammers, and it is all the more rewarding when it comes from someone still heavily involved in the game as opposed to a journalist or pundit - nice as that is.
Thus when Gerard Houllier tipped the Hammers to do well this season, mentioning them in the same breath as Arsenal and Manchester United in the process, ears will prick up.
Speaking on the official Liverpool website, Houllier said: "There’s no doubt we can win the Premiership if we are injury-free. The players have a great belief in themselves.
"Our main rivals will be the usual suspects such as Arsenal and Manchester United, but I also tip West Ham to do well."
High praise indeed from a man who has vast experience in football. One question though, will his words ring true, or will they be the kiss of death?
