Both clubs have been given until the 4th of January to explain theirs fans’ actions.

A statement on the FA’s website this afternoon read, “Chelsea FC and West Ham United FC have been charged for the behaviour of their supporters during their Carling Cup match at Stamford Bridge.

“The two clubs have been charged with a breach of FA Rule E22 (a) for their alleged failure to ensure that spectators, and/or persons purporting to be its supporters or followers, conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from threatening and/or violent and/or provocative behaviour.”

Chelsea’s Mateja Kezman appeared to be hit by coin thrown from the West Ham supporters’ end whilst there were also clashes with Police involving both sets of fans towards the end of the game in which Chelsea won 1-0.

Anton Ferdinand hit the bar late on, in the game won by a goal from Mateja Kezman. The highlight of the night though, from the Hammers point of view, was stand-in keeper Jimmy Walker’s late penalty save from Frank Lampard.
